A Fate Worse Than Death …. We Will Not Get Out of This Life Alive

Some people do not want to discuss the end of life; however, unless you intend to live forever, it is a good idea to have a tentative plan in place.

The human species has been around for at least 200,000 years; not one person has been through the life cycle and finished it alive. Today there are about 8 billion people on this small planet, most of them will be gone within the next 8 decades.

What should people in the later stages of life plan for, to feel comfortable and content with the inevitable outcome? The more complicated our lives are, the more difficult it is to plan and prepare for the last stage of life. So, what are the options? There are dozens of scenarios that could be planned for; however, each person’s circumstances are different.

For many people just being alive is only part of the aging process; the quality of that life is an important consideration. One of common practice is for older people to be placed into a long-term care facility or institution when they become somewhat incapacitated with a very poor quality of life.

Should a person have the fundamental right to determine how, when and where they chose to spend the last portion of their life?
